Sponge Filters

Description: Sponge filters are simple yet effective filtration systems in aquariums. They operate using either air-driven systems (connected to an air pump) or powerhead-driven systems. The core of the filter is a sponge, which serves as the primary filter media.

Functionality: As water is drawn through the sponge, it provides both biological and mechanical filtration. Beneficial bacteria colonize the sponge, aiding in the nitrogen cycle by breaking down harmful substances. Additionally, the sponge traps debris and particulate matter, mechanically cleaning the water.

Advantages: Sponge filters are cost-effective, easy to maintain, and gentle on delicate or young aquatic organisms. They are particularly useful in breeding tanks and aquariums with small or slow-swimming species.
