Planaria

Definition: Planaria are flatworms that can sometimes be found in aquariums.

Function in the Aquarium: While generally harmless to fish, the presence of planaria may indicate overfeeding or other imbalances in the tank. Managing food levels and maintaining proper aquarium hygiene can help control their population. Planaria are an issue in shrimp takes as they can prey on baby shrimplets. There are products available such as “No Planaria” that are safe to use in shrimp tanks.
